Welcome To Augustana Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas

The vision of Augustana Lutheran Church is to make an impact for God by being of service to the community and by sharing the enriching message of eternal hope given to all by Jesus Christ.

We seek to serve God by working for justice and peace, to respect and learn from all the great faith traditions and desire to be known by the love we have for one another.

Welcome – who we are

WORSHIP ALIVE DURING LENT

Opportunities await your participation as the whole church returns to a corporate focus on the passion, suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. Between Ash Wednesday and Passion/Palm Sunday, Augustana has three offerings led by laity and clergy. We look forward to seeing you … as you are able!

  • Wednesday, March 5 @ NOON — communion liturgy and disposition of ashes, as we fellowship together around a simple meal of soup and bread.
  • WEDNESDAY, March 5 @ 7pm — Jacqueline Parnell will lead a Zoom book study using 40 Days, 40 Ways, A New Look at Lent, by Dr. Marcellino D’Ambrosio. The group study continues weekly on Wednesdays through April 16.
  • SUNDAY, March 9 @ 6pm — Grace Banks will lead a Zoom book study using Reliving the Passion: Meditations on the Suffering, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus as Recorded in Mark, by Walter Wangerin Jr.
PLEASE NOTE: Your private reading for the 40 day journey through this text also begins on Ash Wednesday. The group study continues weekly on Sundays through April 13.

The group studies will take place via the Zoom link used for Sunday morning worship. Books for both studies are currently available at the church office. Please call for details: (713) 522-8142, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 2pm.

Camp Hope

CAMP HOPE 2024

Camp Hope at Augustana was energized by excited children following their leaders "Out In The Open Sea". Firefighters from Houston Fire Station #7 on Elgin Street in Third Ward, visited our campers that week. They gave us tips about prevention, action and support in all kinds of emergencies; PLUS the opportunity to learn about their truck and a fun walk-through. We are grateful for all of our first responders!!

Disaster Preparedness Reminder

Effective June 1 - November 30, we are in hurricane season on the Gulf Coast. Please make sure we have your correct/updated contact information.

  1. Please take a moment to check your supplies; set aside in the event of a stop or slow down of everyday routines.
  2. We have four volunteer call captains who will contact their list of members if circumstances require that we must check in with our membership. Hearty thanks to Iva Huff, Jay Smith, Helene Taylor, and LeVonne Harrel. Please also keep Pastor Clay's contact information handy, it is included in the bulletin each week.
